For our March event, Malcolm Shrimplin presented An Introduction to Clivias. Malcolm brought 2 to 3 year old clivia seedlings for sale at discount prices plus free clivia seeds. Besides the standard orange and yellow clivia, there is a variety of new colors which have been created.

Malcolm R. Shrimplin is president of The North American Clivia Society (NACS) and also the society’s newsletter editor. He served for five years as First Vice President prior to being elected president this past March. For the past nine years, he has been a judge, as well as the Secretary and Classification Chair, for the annual Clivia Show and Sale held yearly the third weekend each March at The Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Gardens in San Marino, CA. Malcolm also edited the first and only edition of William McClelland’s book, Illustrated Terms and Definitions for Describing Clivia. He enjoys collecting Clivia miniata with large, white throats and unusual flower forms and color patterns.

In 2015 he finished two, three year terms on the Board of Directors for the Alamos Condominium Complex in Scottsdale, AZ. During that time, his primary role was overseeing routine desert landscape maintenance, as well as water-wise landscape design and improvement at the upscale, resort-style five acre complex just north of downtown.

A native of North Central Ohio, Malcolm is a Cum Laude graduate of Bowling Green State University who earned a master’s degree in Management Science from The University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

He is currently employed by Shire, formerly Baxalta and Baxter, in Westlake Village as Master Black Belt working on issues of process improvement and statistical education in the Global Product Development and Technical Services organization.
